Do I need internet at my event? What works offline

Written by PixoShare Support

You need internet to sync the event on the event day. After that, your PC and iPad keep working on your own Wi-Fi when the internet drops, and texts, emails and uploads go out when it's back.

A normal event, synced on this PC, with the iPad on the PixoShare PC tab

The PC and the iPad share a local network, such as your own router (see Wi-Fi and internet at your event: router, speed and setup).

The iPad and the PC both need internet. Guests can't print from the iPad. If your PC runs the event with Auto print on, the PC still prints every photo.

Guests download photos to their phones over your Wi-Fi, with nothing online

Offline mode on the PC

No texts, emails, online galleries, AI effects or printing, and nothing is uploaded or sent later.

1. Sync the event on the event day

The PC gets its list of events from the internet, and it lists an event only on the days it runs. So pick the event and click Sync event on the event day, before you leave. Traveling the day before? Plan an internet connection at your destination to sync it there on the day.

A synced event can start without internet from its start day until the day after its end day.

2. The internet drops during an event

With the iPad on the PixoShare PC tab, the event keeps running over your Wi-Fi:

Without internet

New photos on the iPad

Keep appearing

Printing and AirDrop

Keep working

Text and Email

Guests can still request them. They're sent when the internet returns

QR code

Hidden until the internet returns

Uploads and online galleries

Photos wait on the PC and upload when the internet returns

AI effects

Made after the photo uploads

The PC and the iPad show Offline — queueing, and a guest who sends a text or email sees Queued.

The PC's event screen without internet: Offline — queueing next to the event name and Offline on the Status card, both marked; uploads and shares are pending

When the internet comes back, uploads and waiting texts and emails start again by themselves within seconds. You don't have to do anything. Keep PixoShare open on the PC until everything has gone out.

3. Only a local gallery: Offline mode

Offline mode turns the PC into a local gallery. Guests join your Wi-Fi, browse every photo from the event so far and download the ones they want. No internet is needed.

1. On the PC's start screen, click the Offline mode tab, then Continue.
2. Select watch folder: the folder your booth software or camera saves photos into.
3. Choose a Wi-Fi network: the network guests will join, and type its Wi-Fi password. Its name and password go into a QR code, so use a network meant for guests, like your own router.

The Choose a Wi-Fi network step, with the selected network and the Wi-Fi password box marked

4. Give the event a name, then click Start event.

The PC shows two QR codes: Step 1: Connect to Wi-Fi and Step 2: Open gallery. Guests scan the first, then the second. You can also use Download QR to print the codes for a table sign. On the iPad, guests can AirDrop their photos, or tap QR Code to see the same two codes.

The PC in Offline mode: the Offline mode active banner and the two QR cards, Step 1: Connect to Wi-Fi and Step 2: Open gallery, marked (sample network)

Nothing from an Offline mode event is sent or uploaded later. If you want photos online after the event, run a normal event instead.

To go back to normal events, click Stop event, then Events.

Good to know

  • Guests' phones need data for links. Texts, emails and the QR code send a link to the photos online, so guests need cellular data or a working Wi-Fi to open it.

  • Stopped the event with photos still waiting? They continue the next time you start that event.
